Activities: First MAST webinar
Careless Responding

Keynote by Prof. Dr. Ana Hernández (Universitat de València), followed by moderated small-group discussions with methodological experts and applied researchers. We thank Anna Brown, Esther Ulitzsch, Inés Tomás Marco, Irina Uglanova, Jason Huang, Jeffrey Edwards and Clara Cuevas Ureña for moderating the breakout groups. We were also delighted to have more than 100 method and applied researchers participating and being actively involved in the exchange. Materials will by made available online soon.
What is MAST?
Launched in 2024 and now taking shape, the Methods & Applications Synergy Taskforce (MAST) brings together methodologists and applied researchers to exchange ideas, share best practices, and drive innovation. Key activities will include:
- Regular online meet-ups
- Thematic networking sessions
- Webinars and seminars
- A dedicated resource hub on this website (upcoming)
Purpose
- Unite methods-focused and application-focused researchers (e.g., psychometricians and substantive researchers, method development and method application in scientific contexts and beyond)
- Accelerate adoption of cutting-edge techniques from methodology through targeted learning and networking
- Foster collaborations within the EAM community and beyond
In our Kick-off in October 2025, we collected ideas how to achieve this:
- Accelerate adoption of cutting-edge techniques
- Bridge the gap between good research methodologies and applied research
- Agree on good practices collaboratively
- Develop things that are relevant to practitioners and applied research, and make them more accessible
- Build capacity for publishing methodology papers
- Improve research quality
- Quality criteria for qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research
- Data control and quality criteria, including the different types of non-parametric analysis
- Ethical use of AI in research
- Advances in inter-methodology mixing
- Advances in cross-over analysis frameworks
- Quantitizing and qualitizing
- Design purposeful applications of research methods
- Find professional associations interested in methodological support, to connect EAM members with other psychology professionals
- Learn the real needs of practitioners
- Search for or develop solutions to practitioners’ needs
- Disseminate good research practices among professional groups, for example through brief guidelines
- Foster collaborations
